Thyroid Antibodies04/28/2009 |
Are the thyroid antibodies a type of ANA? I have positive ANA and was wondering if I should be checked for the thyroid antibodies. My rheumatologist has ruled out lupus and several other autoimmune diseases but has not tested for the thyroid antibodies.Thank you.
Antithyroid antibodies are not ANA, however, positive ANA have been commonly found in both types of thyroid autoimmune disorders (Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis). Therefore, checking circulatory levels of antithyroid antibodies and thyroid function is reasonable in your case.
