Elevation of Serum Creatinine04/30/2009 |
I am a 61 year old female who has had well controlled hypertension for years. My blood pressure is usually 115-130/60-80 and I am now on Benicar 30mg qd, 12.5 mg Tenormin qd and 12.5 HCTZ per day. I have no other problems. I just had a normal echo stress test. I have a normal Urine Analysis and normal blood glucose. I have records of my BUN and creatinine taken q 6 months for ten years. My creatinine bounced up and down from .9, to .8, to .7, to .9 to .8 and just recently to 1.07. My BUN has run from 11 to 22. I take no drugs which are known to cause kidney damage. What would cause this change in my creatinine? I am concerned since my estimated GFR is less than 60. Do I need an evaluation by a kidney specialist?
There is always some variation in creatinine levels due to laboratory variation, what you eat and sometimes due to dehydration. If the elevation of creatinine continues in next blood draw, your physician should evaluate this further or may need a kidney specialist referral.
