Revitalizing a Traumatized Tooth

05/12/2009

Question:

I hit one of my front teeth with a metallic spoon about two months ago. It does not move and it hasn`t changed the color. I took some anti-inflamatory pills, had a radiography made and my doctor told me that the tooth seems to be devitalizing. She said that we should wait before starting working on the root channel, maybe it is a transitory state of blood circulation and nervous problems. Can I facilitate in any way the recovery of the tooth avoiding thus root channel procedures?

Answer:

There is nothing you can do to prevent a traumatized tooth from undergoing pulpal changes. Pulpal reactions to trauma are varied and often quite unpredictable. If you need an expert opinion, I would recommend an evaluation by an endodontist.
