Lung diseases

Lung function

05/23/2009

Question:

my lung function tests have been around 70%. It has been about 9 years since i was diagnosed with scleroderma. i now have what i call the old mans cough. i have to clear my lungs in the morning. it`s not a daily thing but i never used to do this at all. my doc said "me too" when i said i was concerned about this. should i be concerned? is my remission over or is this what happens over time with the lung damage that has occurred?

Answer:

Scleroderma can cause several kinds of lung disease including pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and acid reflux with aspiration. Throat clearing in the morning is often a sign of acid reflux. It would be a good idea to speak with your doctor about whether this is a possibility.
