Nose bleeds06/29/2009 |
my nine year old has a nosebleed about 3 times a week. they are worse when she is nervous or upset, is this a symptom of high blood pressure?
Thank you very much for the question. Nosebleeds can certainly be anxiety provoking, particularly for the child. Most often, nosebleeds result from trauma or an allergic / inflammatory process along the inner lining of the nose. Some common causes include: allergic rhinitis, respiratory infections, and irritation of the inner lining by various gases or fumes. Occasionally, some diseases can lead to nosebleeds, such, as bleeding disorders. I would recommend that you have your daughter seen by her primary care physician. He/She can conduct a physical exam and then recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Thanks again for the question.
