Effects of Marijuana When Taken with Zyrtec

06/18/2009

Question:

I am currently taking zyrtec for allergies and was wondering if there were any known side effects of smoking marijuana while on this med.

Answer:

Marijuana isn't good for you; mixing illegal drugs with prescribed medications isn't good. Cetirizine, the generic form of Zyrtec, may occasionally cause CNS depression in some patients but may be more likely to do so when THC is in the bloodstream at the same time. The combination may be more dangerous than either drug alone.

Maybe you could consider this a reason to stop using marijuana; if you're interested in some help with this, we'd like to recommend the resources linked below.

Best wishes.
