Does a 6-tooth bridge need to be made of gold

06/17/2009

Question:

My 53 year old 5 tooth gold bridge now needs to be a 6 tooth bridge because I need an one extraction. It is the located on the top right which is my chewing side. I`m told the inside of the bridge has to be made of gold, because if I go with a less expensive material it will probably break. Each tooth will cost $1,100.00. Ouch!!!

Answer:

Yes, that is true. Less costly materials are much more brittle -- an undesirable trait in such a long bridge as yours.
