Itching breast

06/18/2009

Question:

For a couple of weeks now my left breast has been itching around the nipple. At 1st I didnt really think anything of it and thought it would just go away. Now I am starting to get a little concerned with what could be causing it because it has persisted. It itches so bad that I have scratched it raw in some places. I dont think it is a detergent issue because its the only part of my body that itches. Can you give me any insight as to what may be causing this discomfort?

Answer:

Most commonly, that is a yeast type of infection that is easily taken care of with an antifungal cream like Nystatin that you can get from your provider. It is important to have this evaluated as it can be a form of eczema that needs a different treatment. Hope this helps!
