Really personal: labia shrinking?

07/10/2009

Question:

This is SO personal that I hope a woman doctor reads my question and answers it, because I do NOT want a man to see it. My question is: Does a womans inner labia get smaller, or shrink after her menapause? Thank you.

Answer:

After menopause, the tissues in and around the vagina and the labia can shrink or become more thin, and also become more dry. This may cause discomfort during sexual activity. You could discuss an estrogen cream with your provider, which can help. Hope this helps.
