I woke in the night with excrutiating ear pain which has now subsided a bit but I now have a continuous echo which is very disconcerting, what could this be?
This could be a labyrinthitis (inner ear problem). I recommend you see an otolaryngologist and get a hearing test and ear examination. My concern is that you have lost some hearing and may need to be started on steroids right away. I would not wait to get this evaluated and treated.
