Period Blood only Flowing Out when Peeing

09/28/2009

Question:

During my last 2 cycles I`ve experience normal cramping; however no blood flows out onto my pad. The blood is only seen during peeing and wiping. There have not been any changes on the length of my cycle, duration of my period, normal symptoms, what flows into the toilet, or when I wipe.

Is this something I should be worried about?

Answer:

This may be normal to see more bleeding from your menstrual cycle when you urinate.

The bladder sits on top of the uterus and when your bladder contracts to release the urine, it puts some pressure on the uterus and blood will then flow out. This is normal as long as you are getting a cycle each month, it is starting and stopping generally within 7 days and you are not having passage of clots, prolonged or heavy bleeding.
