Pregnancy

How early can I have contractions

09/24/2009

Question:

I am 31 year old mother of 2, both of whom were preterm babies. I am now approx 12 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. With both of my prev. pregnancies, I was in preterm labor from the time I was 4 months along and on complete bedrest. I am having alot of pelvic pressure now and am wondering if I should be concerned as they feel a bit like contractions. I think it would be too early for this, but am unsure.

Answer:

Contractions are uncommon at 12 weeks.  You are, however, at risk for a third preterm birth.  You may be a candidate to take progesterone in this pregnancy that can reduce your risk for another preterm delivery.
