Perianal abcess after care.

09/30/2009

Question:

I recently had a perianal abcess surgically drained yesterday. The doctor advised to wait 24 hours before changing the bandages. The problem with that is I do not have anyone that can help me with the process.

Is it mandatory to re apply bandages to continue healing? How is this done, I was given know instructions about the process and from what I can tell the bandages are just packed into my anus. Is there a certain way this has to be re bandaged?

Answer:

These are all great questions, but it is important that you ask your surgeon! Some abscess cavities need to be re-packed, some simply covered. Others just need to be soaked. I cannot tell you specifics about your condition, but your surgeon can and should.
