Helicobacter pylori11/18/2009 |
What are the side effects for Helicobacter Pylori bacteria?
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium thought to be the cause of most ulcers in the stomach and upper part of the intestines (duodenum). Unlike most bacteria, which are killed by the acid conditions in the stomach, H. pylori has adapted to grow in the stomach under the mucus layer that protects the stomach itself from exposure to acidic digestive juices that it produces. Many people infected with H. pylori do not experience any symptoms.
If the H. pylori infection has caused an ulcer or gastritis, you may have some of the following symptoms:
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating and fullness
- Dyspepsia or indigestion
- Feeling very hungry 1 to 3 hours after eating
- Mild nausea (may be relieved by vomiting)
There are simple tests that your doctor can do to determine if you are infected with H. pylori. Talk to your doctor to see if he/she recommends this for you or for more information.
