Annual Chest X-rays

11/04/2009

Question:

If i have a positive TB skin test, how often do I need to have a chest X-ray?  Does the standard vary from state to state?  I am in TN.  I have never taken INH.

Answer:

From a medical perspective a CXR is only indicated if you have symptoms like cough, weight loss, fever or coughing up blood. The requriement for xrays is typically based on your job. In some states if you work in a nursing home or home care an annual chest xray is required. However, this is changing as the old codes are updated. So the xray requirements are based on the kind of job you do and the state you live in.
