Who is not a candidate for Lasik?
Thank you for visiting NetWellness. Eligibility for lasik or refractive surgery depends on a number of different factors such as age, status of ocular and systemic health, and the refractive error (eyeglass prescription). The following list includes items which would make someone a poor candidate for Lasik or any other type of refractive surgery.
- Persons under 18 years of age because the eyeball is likely still growing
- Persons with unstable refractions (eyeglass prescription constantly changing by a signficant amount)
- Persons with known collagen vascular, autoimmune or immune-deficiency diseases
- Women who are pregnant or nursing
- Persons with a history of Herpes Simplex or Herpes Zoster involving their eyes
- Persons with a history of Herpes Persons with corneal disease, such as keratoconus or pellucid marginal degeneration
- Persons taking certain medications
