Pain in Right Kidney
I have a non functioning left kidney, the result of an accident 20yrs ago. I now have pain in my lower back, right side. I have no other symptoms. I have had this pain for 5 days. Based on my history, do I need immediate care?
It is not clear whether the pain is actually coming from your right kidney. Pain in the lower back is most commonly from a musculoskeletal cause, especially if you have no other symptoms at all. Please see the link to our article on "Kidney Pain." If, after reading it, you think that your pain is in your kidney, you should see your doctor, who can check a urinalysis and possibly an imaging study (such as an ultrasound) to see if there is an obvious cause for the pain.
