Candida glabrata

01/13/2010

Question:

I have been diagnosed with candida glabrata and I am wondering is this contagious? Can it be transmitted to my partner or anyone else in my house using the same bathroom as I? What are the most effective treatment for this strain of yeast?

Answer:

The issue of transmission of a yeast infection is common. There is no evidence that this can occur after using a bathroom, shower, etc. There is even poor evidence that a yeast infection can be transmitted sexually. This strain is atypical and usually requires more than the standard over the counter antifungal. Diflucan or Terazol typically does the trick.
