End Stage Emphysema02/04/2010 |
my dad has end stage emphysema at times he cannot move because he cant breathe, is this a bronchospasm or some kind of spasm that he can do something about at home? He also has to urinate a lot what causes this and what can be done? If his other organs are not affected can he live 5 or more years? He is on oxygen 24/7, still gets around pretty good but is afraid to leave the house for very long, will only go 7 or 8 blocks away in the car.
It sounds like your dad suffers from severe emphysema and possibly anxiety, which could be contributing, to his symptoms of shortness of breath. Pulmonary rehabilitation is often very helpful in improving shortness of breath and symptoms of anxiety. Without more information, it is difficult to determine why he is having excessive urination. This is not a typical symptom of emphysema.
It is also hard for us to tell you how much longer he would live without knowing more specifics regarding his lung function. However, you may find the following guidelines helpful in knowing what to expect:
