Diverticulitis

02/17/2010

Question:

After a recent colonoscopy, I was told my colon was fine but the test detected diverticulitis. Do I need to alter my diet even if I currently feel no discomfort from the diverticulitis?

Answer:

You were most likely told you have "diverticuOSIS", not "diverticuLITIS"- they are very different. Diverticulitis is the infection or inflammation that can occur in one with diverticulosis. Diverticulosis is treated with high fiber diet (30 grams of insoluble dietary fiber every day) and plenty of water.
