Depression

Job loss/Post-traumatic stress disorder

02/17/2010

Question:

Can job loss result in post traumatic stress disorder?

Answer:

Job loss, if traumatic, could be stressful enough to serve as the trigger for the development of PTSD. If you suspect job loss has contributed to symptoms of PTSD, a psychological or psychiatric evaluation is the next step and a good investment. The sooner you treat those symptoms, the less they will progress to a major disorder.
