Taking Hydrocodone During Pregnancy03/16/2010 |
I have a friend with a bulging disc in severe pain. She have been on pain meds for 6 years. Just found out she was pregnant. She does not abuse the pain meds. , but want off of them during her pregnancy. What to do?
Hydrocodone is not harmful to the fetus during pregnancy if it is taken in small doses intermittently. However, if it is taken every day, the baby will become dependent on it and will go through withdrawal after birth. Your friend should tell her obstetrician about the pain medication she takes. Physical therapy may be another way of treating her pain.
