I`m 21, and for two months I will undergo for surgery on my goiter (simple goiter). After this procedure, having my left lobe removed, do I still have the chance of getting pregnant? I have regular and normal menstruation. I`m frustrated and need your answer to my question for I really like to have a baby.

Goiters in general do not prevent women from becoming pregnant. Sometimes, goiters are accompanied with decreased thyroid function (called hypothyroidism), and taking thyroid pills will restore fertility to normal. In rare cases, goiters are accompanied with increased thyroid function (called hyperthyroidism). Hyperthyroidism should be completely treated before becoming pregnant, because it is more difficult to treat once you are pregnant. You should discuss your plans with an endocrinologist or reproductive endocrinologist prior to attempting pregnancy to make sure you are medically ready from a thyroid perspective.
