Pulmonary Fibrosis |
What Drug? - Updated Response03/30/2010 |
What is the most effective medication to overcome the shortness of breath, and weakness?
There is no perfect drug for pulmonary fibrosis. Pirfenidone, a drug that may interrupt some of the scar tissue formation in a certain type of pulmonary fibrosis called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, is currently being evaluated by the FDA. The drug showed some benefit in clinical trials and may help some people with the disease. It is expected that the FDA will make a final decision about whether to approve it by May 4, 2010.
You should address this issue with your doctor and make sure that there are not other medical issues that could make you weak like low thyroid, electrolyte (blood salts), kidney function, liver function, heart function or drug effects (steroid withdrawal).
