Is there a shortened life span with crohn`s disease?
There is not necessarily a shortened life span, however there are complications that can occur with Crohns disease (for example abscesses/infections, strictures requiring surgery, increased risk for colon cancer if a significant portion of the colon is involved in Crohns disease etc.) that can influence the lives of patients with Crohns disease. Luckily there are many new and upcoming treatments for Crohns patients and a new understanding of the disease that will hopefully lessen these issues in the future.
