8 Month-Old Baby, Bruising on Gum UL104/23/2010 |
MY 8 MONTH OLD SON HAS BRUISING ON HIS TOP GUM WHERE HIS LEFT FRONT TOOTH SHOULD COME THROUGH. HE HAS HIS TWO BOTTOM FRONT TOOTH AND HAS `CROSS-CUT` A TOP TOOTH WHICH I THINK IS UPPER LEFT 3. IS THIS NORMAL, I AM QUITE WORRIED.
It is quite normal for a "bruise" to appear where a tooth is about to erupt. The sac that surrounds the tooth is simply filled with blood and this should go away without problem when the tooth emerges. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend a baby's first visit by age one or when the teeth begin to emerge. This is an excellent time to visit a pediatric dentist to have your child's mouth examined and to have all of your questions answered.
