Is Her Stool Normal
My 13 month old daughter has had very loose stools which are often very offensive in odour since december. They contain lots of undigested food parts and on a bad day this can occur up to 5 bowel movements. She isn`t loosing weight and is of normal/ average weight and height with a good appetite. Why could this be?
In general, adequate weight gain is the hallmark of adequate food intake and digestion. That said, some things to consider: Many young children may eat more fruits, vegetables, and cereals, which may have high fiber. Could this be part of the issue? Are foods cut small enough to be chewed well? Are mealtimes calm and relaxed to give the child time to chew? Is the child still breast-fed or switched to whole milk? (This can affect digestion) Are you especially sensitive to stool odors, or does everyone feel the same about these bowel movements?
Ultimately, discuss your concerns with your pediatric health care provider and closely monitor your child's weight and length with your health care provider until you and they are comfortable that your daughter is growing and digesting properly.
