Meaning of Interval Change

06/28/2010

Question:

My latest thyroid ultrasound has under findings, “No interval change since the prior examination”. My last ultrasounds were 6 months and 9 months ago.

A solid nodule in the left lobe has increased in size from the prior to the current ultrasound (i.e 6 months) from 1.24 x 1.21 x 0.808cm to 1.88 x 1.70 x 1.21cm.

What does “no interval change” mean exactly? I`m confused since the nodule has grown.

Answer:

Please review the exact measurements with your ENT. Generally, no interval change means that there has been no change in size.
