Can a Lung Transplant Recipient Have End Stage COPD

06/24/2010

Question:

I have end stage COPD. I recently had to increase my oxygen to 4 ltrs, and then to 5. I am currently being tested to see if I qualify for a lung transplant. I`m getting worried I won`t last long enough to get on the list. I`m doing Pulmonary Rehab, eating healthy foods, and taking perscribed meds. I just want to know if I have a chance.

Answer:

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, and it is ok to increase your oxygen during exertion. The information you provide suggests that you would have a chance for transplant and would “last” long enough to receive one.
