what is diverticulitis
Diverticulitis is inflammation/infection of diverticuli. These are small bulges or pockets which develop mainly on the large intestine. They become more common as people age and are usually asymptomatic. Only a small percentage of people with diverticuli will develop diverticulitis. Diverticulitis typically causes pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen and fever. It is treated with antibiotics.
