How Do You Treat Toddler’s Dry, Flaky Scalp?08/02/2010 |
My 2-year old is constantly (VIGOROUSLY) scratching her scalp. Her pediatrician recommended using Selsun Blue no more than twice a week. I am currently using Selsun Blue naturals but find that her scalp still dries and flakes (usually white, sometimes yellow in color) if I only use it twice a week. What can I do? I`ve read that oiling the scalp may make matters worse, but if I don`t oil it, it dries and becomes flaky again. PLEASE HELP!
I have had success with using the Selsun Blue that lists selenium as the active ingredient (not all variations of the shampoo do). Apply the shampoo to the scalp for 5 minutes three times a week and rinse. In my experience, this has solved the problem for patients I have worked with. If not, it's time to see a pediatric dermatologist.
