Complains of Strange Vision08/24/2010 |
Hello,My 9 yr old grandson complains (for about 4 yrs now) that his eyes bother him sometimes and it`s like looking thru the wrong end of a telescope. He sometimes also complains of a headache. His Ophthalmologist says there is nothing wrong. Is this normal? Thank you
This is not a common complaint and what he may be experiencing is an accommodative (or focusing) spasm. An accommodative spasm will allow images to look clear, but smaller than normal, which may be similar to what it is like looking through the back end of a telescope. The headaches may also be related to this spasm.
Accommodative spasm can affect vision for brief periods or can be persistent. If it becomes more persistent, it can be treated with vision therapy and/or spectacles.
