Soft Tissue Injury

08/13/2010

Question:

I hear my doctors talk alot about soft tissue injuries. Is soft tissue include muscle, ligaments, tendons and cartlidge? Is it any thing that is not an organ or a bone? What is meant by soft tissue?

Answer:

Soft tissue is pretty much as you described it. It relates to tissue that is non-bony or non-organ in nature. There is a range of different types of tissue within the soft tissue umbrella as you mentioned.  It is helpful to identify which of those tissues have been injured when making a diagnosis because treatments can vary based on the involved tissue.

Thank you for the question.
