Fibroadenoma

11/02/2010

Question:

Fibro adenoma is a curable disease or not?

Answer:

A fibroadenoma is a kind of benign tumor comprised of a combination of fibrous and glandular tissue. A common site in women is the breast, where it is the most common tumor found in young women. While most fibroadenomas do not cause any symptoms, sometimes they can grow large enough to cause discomfort or distortion of the breast. If this is the case, or to verify that it is just a benign tumor, it is removed surgically.

Fibroadenomas of the breast are not in any way related to fibroid tumors of the uterus. These very common tumors are benign muscular tumors of the uterine wall, and are more accurately called leiomyomas.
