Honey while breastfeeding01/21/1998 |
I know that children under one year of age should not eat honey. If I am breastfeeding my three month old, is it safe for me to have honey butter? I've had a little here and there, but I really love it and would like to eat more of it if I could. Thank you for your help.
What an interesting question you have raised. It has taken awhile to find that there is no clear answer. You are correct that honey should NEVER be given to an infant. The reference books and literature do not clearly state that honey is safe to eat while breastfeeding, nor do they state that you should not have honey. This is something you could discuss further with your child's health care provider before you make a decision about including honey in your diet.
