what class of diuretics is the strongest?
Three classes of diuretics are used to treat hypertension:The loop diuretics are the "strongest" in that these drugs can have the most profound diuretic effect.
- Thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide
- Loop diuretics such as furosemide
- Potassium sparing diuretics such as triamterene
The potency of these drugs on blood pressure depends on various factors including combination therapy with other drugs for hypertension and the patient's kidney function.
