Question:

when i was 33 yrs old i had a cone byopsy done on my left cervix. i`m dagnoised with uterine didelphys. i recently went to my new ob/gyn and he had informed me he had only seen one cervix not two. is it possible that my left cervix had closed up on its own from the cone byopsy? i`m really confused about it.

Answer:

There are many possible answers to your question.  You might have two uterine bodies with only one cervical opening.  You might have one cervix with two openings, and since the cone biopsy only one opening is visible.  

You might have another cervical opening that is hidden in the folds of the vagina since the cone biopsy.  Finally, you might have another cervix that is now scarred shut as a result of the cone biopsy.

 

The first step is to evaluate your uterus with a transvaginal ultrasound.  If you have two uterine cavities and the cervix of one is blocked, it will be filled with blood.  

The treatment for this is surgical drainage or removal of the blocked uterus.  If neither is filled with blood, it is likely that the second cervical opening is difficult to see or the two uteruses are connected somewhere above the cervical opening.  Treatment is usually not required in these cases.
