My father recently went to the doctors. They found a mass on his lung. That is all my mother told me. What other diagnosis could it be, besides cancer.
Thank you for your question. There are several potential conditions that may present with a lung mass. These conditions include malignancies, unresolved bacterial pneumonias, tuberculosis and autoimmune conditions just to name a few. The most important thing is that you discuss with your provider a systematic approach to finding the cause. The approach will often include a careful history and physical examination, review of previous imaging studies, new imaging studies such as CT scan and biopsy if necessary.
