Tongue Change Colors

02/15/2011

Question:

I brush my tongue every day. When i wake up in the morning it is orange, one day i only drank water and milk and i had a white coated tongue. I do have vitamin defency in b12 from my gastric bypass surgery. But it just started about having my tongue change for about 3 months.

Answer:

The color changes you describe with your tongue are harmless and more information is provided in the linked previous questions and answers on this topic. One word of caution: be gentle if you are brushing your tongue daily. If you are too vigorous, you might cause the tongue to “respond” by producing even move keratin material, similar to a callus on your hands.

Hope this helps!
