Pass thru severe acute pancreas

05/26/2011

Question:

I am 32, and I had acute pancreatitis around 1-1/2 years back. I quit drinking for that period, now I started drinking once in a week. Is it okay? In between I started pains. Ultrasound reports are normal, only saying mild diffuse coarsening of the parenchymal echotexture is seen in liver. Is this any serious note? What should I do?

Answer:

1. No alcohol should be consumed as this has resulted in symptoms of acute pancreatitis.

2. The findings of the liver are concerning and a hepatologist should be seen for possible liver biopsy and management of the liver changes longterm.
