Low MIP/MEP Ratio06/24/2011 |
Hi. My husband has a restrictive lung disease and he was just tested and his mip was at 50% of his Mep. What could this be indicative of? Thank you.
MIP is maximum inspiratory pressure and MEP is maximum expiratory pressure; if these numbers are diminished this could indicate weakness of the respiratory muscles. The absolute numbers however are more important than the ratio. For example, a low MIP (usually measured in cmH2O) often indicates diaphragm weakness.
