Post Pneumonia Activity

07/01/2011

Question:

I am a 50yr male. I normally workout 5-6 days a week; high intensity workouts(crossfit).I also eat properly and consider myself very fit. How soon after having had pneumonia(not hospitalized) may I resume my normal workout routine?

Answer:

The answer to your question depends on information about your individual health situation which is not available to me. I would suggest that you contact your health care provider to discuss what s/he recommends for you.

In general, we do not think that people recovering from pneumonia get worse if they partake in physical activity. In fact, it may speed a person's return to their usual life. I would suggest discussing with your health care provider and listening to your body. You may find that pneumonia has taken more out of you than you might expect.
