What is Blunting of the Meniscus?

09/01/2011

Question:

what exactly is blunting of the meniscus and what will need to be done

Answer:

“Blunting of the meniscus” is a radiologic description of how the edge of a meniscus may appear when a knee MRI scan has been performed. Normally, the edge of a meniscus appears “sharp.” One possible cause for “blunting” is post-surgical changes.

This finding may or may not have any clinical significance… that is, there may or may not be any associated symptoms, and there may or may not be any need for treatment.

As is the case with results from any diagnostic test, an MRI finding such as this needs to be interpreted by the evaluating/treating physician in the context of the clinical situation.
