Atenolol and metoprolol are both very good blood pressure medication options since you also have difficulty breathing. Metoprolol is not better than atenolol per say, but metoprolol is possibly a better option depending on other disease states or risk factors you may have.
The decision to switch medications can be very complicated and your physician knows more about your situation and other medical conditions, it is more appropriate to discuss the risks and benefits of any medication you might be taking with your physician.
