Smoking and Tobacco

My dad is smoking

06/07/1999

Question:

My dad is smoking and I don`t know what to do to convince him to stop and go to counseling.

Answer:

Expressing your love and concern for your father, including a desire that he stop smoking is very important. He may not be quite ready to stop now, which is very frustrating for loved ones. You could get helpful brochures at your local American Cancer Society. You could suggest he see his family doctor, who can advise him of the many options for cessation available today. Good luck, and keep communication open!
