Smoking and Tobacco

Black speckled phlegm

06/08/1999

Question:

I quit smoking 5 months ago after smoking 3 packs a day for 25 years. I am coughing up a clear but black specked phlegm. Is this normal?

Answer:

While this is probably the natural clearing of the lungs after a long period of smoking, it would be wise to check this out with your physician.
