Degenerative hip bone (10/06/2008 10:12AM) |
| apparently I have had hip tears that went undetected ,could this have cause my hip bone to degenerate? Without knowing where the hip fractures are, it is difficult to say if they contributed to your present situation. If you are still premenopausal, get adequate calcium and vitamin D. Don't smoke. | |

Osteopenia and hip pain (08/04/2008 04:10PM) |
| My bone density test indicated Osteopenia in my left hip. I presently have pain in my left hip, sometimes radiating down my left leg. The pain in your hip is unrelated to your osteopenia. | |

Prednisone and osteoporosis (07/28/2008 11:34AM) |
| I am 34 years old and have been taking Prednisone for 4 years for my RA. I will be taking Prednisone for the rest of my life to help control my RA. Some experts believe that if you are going to be on steroids like Prednisone longterm that you should take a bisphosphonate medication (there are several options in this osteoporosis drug category) to prevent osteoporosis. | |

Safety of taking Boniva and using Fortical na (05/27/2008 10:18AM) |
| Is it safe to use once a month Boniva and the Fortical nasal spray as a concurrent treatment? Am currently using the Fortical nasal spray and 1000 mg of calcium with Vit D. My GP suggest Boniva is stronger treatment, and said it is safe to use the Boniva and Fortical as treatment. I would agree that Boniva would probably provide better protection from fracture. | |

Do I need a second opinion? (05/12/2008 09:28AM) |
| I had my 1st bone density at 53 with scores of -3.57 lumbar spine, left hip -2.05. My next numbers in 04 were better after taking Actonel, calcium and vit. I read somewhere that if Actonel doesn`t work that there may be some other underlying cause for the drop in dexa scores, such as a thyroid problem or vit D deficiency. | |

Answer to doctor`s question (07/05/2007 09:09AM) |
| This is my answer to the doctor who answered my original question "Bone density tesults -1.4" 1-Yes, I have mild scoliosis in my upper and lower back--since childhood. 2-Yes, I have degenerative disc disease in my cervical spine, and at all levels in my lumbar spine with disc buldging at all levels, also. Should my doctor look for what is wrong with my upper back or sacral spine, also? | |

Mayacalcin, Evista, and Actonel (11/13/2006 02:11PM) |
| With your family history of blood clots, I would recommend checking for coagulation abnormalities prior to using Evista. Actonel and other bisphosphonates have been associated with the rare condition of osteonecrosis of the jaw. The majority of cases have occurred in cancer patients who were receiving intravenous bisphosphonates and who under went a dental procedure that involved the jaw bone. | |

No benefit from Fosamax? (10/27/2006 09:08AM) |
| My first bone density test done four years ago showed osteopenia, and my gynecologist prescriped Fosamax. My recent blood work was normal and I seem to be in good health, but a repeated bone density test showed increased bone loss! If so, the osteoporosis specialist will probably run some blood tests and possibly a urine test to see how much calcium you lose through the urine. | |

Effects of Actonel (08/08/2006 08:54AM) |
| I ALSO CAN FEEL FOOD PILING UP AFTER I HAVE SWALLOWED AND FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO CHOKE. I would recommend that you discontinue Actonel until your swallowing problem is diagnosed and treated. Be sure to get permission from the treating physician before starting Actonel or any drug in that class. |
