Mouthwash (01/04/2007 10:54AM) |
| Does non-alcohol mouthwash kill germs as effectively as one that contains alcohol? Not all mouthwashes are equal, and it is not the alcohol in the mouthwash that kills bacteria. Alcohol can also dry the tissues of the mouth and obviously be an issue for those sensitive to alcohol, children, or those who maybe be addicted or recovering from alcohol related addiction. | |

Smoking and the mouth (04/30/2008 01:55PM) |
I am writing in response to your question of smoking and the relationship to alteration of oral mucosa and development of pathologies of the oral cavity. The continuum covers the direct effects of smoke and drying action of heated air/smoke to oral cancer. The by-products of smoking have been shown to produce molecular changes in response to the smoke that are associated with epithelial inflammation, periodontal inflammation and alteration of immune responses, salivary gland irritation, ... | |

Wine (02/18/2005 09:33AM) |
| Since some wines, particularly red wines, are rich in antioxidants and antioxidants are considered to work against the development of some cancers, wine may actually protect the skin of the mouth from precancerous and cancerous lesions. Together with a routine oral examination every 6-12 months to check for the earliest signs of precancerous change, I believe most patients could enjoy two glasses of wine without the added worry of oral ... | |

Mouth redness (07/13/2006 11:14AM) |
| I noticed that there is a redness extending from the vermillion border of my lips, mainly the bottom lip, and only a little bit on the top corners of the lip. Thanks Most cases of redness around the mouth are due to yeast infection that becomes established because this area is kept moist, either by constant licking (consciously or unconsciously) by the patient or by use of petrolatum ("Vaseline") type compounds on the skin. Occasionally this represents a contact stomatitis (... | |

Irritated tongue (06/11/2007 01:47PM) |
| years ago while traveling i developed painful lesions on my tongue after chewing coca leaves. Without seeing the surface and examining surrounding tissues, I would consider “allergic response” to certain foods that is amplified by alterations of the surface of the tongue. The response to pepper also may be related to denuded surface (Benign migratory glossitis) in which the surface of the tongue is altered and things such as pepper, alcohol, salt and vinegar (acid) may elicit a painful ... | |

Green tongue (06/19/2008 04:58PM) |
| I haven`t brushed my tongue at all until a few months ago. I`ve also tried mouthwash and a tongue scraper. I also am on Paxel and Periactin but I`ve been taking those longer than I`ve had the green tongue. | |

Gum irritation due to home whitening (05/13/2008 03:53PM) |
| I recently used a at-home-whitening tray that took 2 hours to whiten. If you try to bleach after the gingiva heals, make sure the material only touches the teeth and not the gingiva. I would avoid spicy foods, hot temperatures and any mouth rinses that contain alcohol during this healing process as those can irritate the tissues further. | |

Breathe smells like alchohol (11/18/2003 09:50AM) |
| After I eat a breakfast that includes green tea, people tell me that my breath smells like alchohol . Several metabolic conditions and medications can cause an alcohol odor on the breath. In the absence of alcohol ingestion, some metabolic conditions such as Diabetic Ketoacidosis can result in levels of acetone which when eliminated through the respiration, smell just like alcohol. | |
