Fracture of lower right second molar (03/20/2007 08:13PM) |
| I believe I have fractured one of the roots of this second lower molar. Second lower molars are prone to fracture of the roots in a vertical fashion - more so, if they have been treated with a root canal. The placement of the dental implant is determined by the future crown that your dentist/ prosthodontist will use to replace the missing tooth. | |

Oral gardnerella (11/14/2007 04:42PM) |
| My girlfriend was diagnosed with Gardnerella and was treated for it with a vaginal cream. What are some common treatments for oral Gardnerella? In doing a search of the medical literature, no publications were found regarding oral infection by Gardnerella species. | |

HPV - oral cancer risk (05/09/2008 01:51PM) |
| My question - with the recent link between HPV and oral cancer - could we be at risk? The American Cancer Society has approved triennial Pap plus HPV screening for women 30 and over, provided that they have a history of normal Paps. The American Cancer Society does not recommend routine HPV testing in women under the age of thirty, unless it is used as a tool to determine if a mildy abnormal Pap is significant. | |

Peace of mind? (07/31/2008 12:16PM) |
| I am 39 yrs old male and about 8 years ago i noticed a pea sized swelling on my sublingual salvary gland. HISTORY: The swelling occurred after habitually eating sunflower seeds for several months as my job required a lot of drive time. The area effected was immediately below where i "crunch" the shell of the seed to eat it. | |

Oral HPV and kissing? (07/14/2008 02:55PM) |
| Last year I had a normal pap test and I tested negative for HPV. I am still worried that there might have been oral transmission, and I don`t know if a negative HPV test with cells taken from my cervix means that I don`t have HPV in my mouth. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any routine practical tests that are yet available for oral HPV infection, and visual exam of the mouth and throat, especially for lesions that might be caused by high-risk subtypes is not reliable as infected cells may... | |

Transfering oral-cancer causing HPV (04/09/2008 02:48PM) |
| Hi, Can a woman contract HPV by having oral sex with a man? As you may know, cancer of the cervix in women is highly related to HPV infection, and we believe that the same is true for a subset of oral/throat cancers where there is also an association with HPV, especially the high risk types (HPV types 16 and 18). The overall prevalence of oral cancer however in the general population is very small in comparison to the prevalence of HPV so the overall chances of developing oral ... | |

Lump on the back of my tongue (11/28/2007 01:19PM) |
| i have a lump on the back of my tongue and it feels and tastes like metal where the lump is what is it cancer? It is not possible from your description to determine what this might be. The best way to answer this is to have it looked at by an ear, nose, throat (ENT) physician who can better give you an idea to what this might represent, as well as whether this requires any further testing. | |

Tooth pain (09/23/2008 05:24PM) |
| Hello, I had a root canal done on tooth #13 in Sep 04. After the root canal, I had pain in that area (upper left fron around tooth #13) for about 3 weeks before the pain went away. I also have gold crowns on the molars next to #13. Since then every year I have pain in that same area and it lasts about 2 weeks (usually in Sep). My dentist says he can`t find any dental reason for the pain--he does the hot/cold tests, bite tests, xrays, etc. The endodonist that performed the root canal also ... | |

Tooth pain after a root canal (06/24/2008 12:59PM) |
| I had a root canal done on tooth #19 on 5/9/08 by an endodontist, a temporary was placed on the tooth. My dentist stated that the tooth should have no pain after a root canal and mentioned tooth #20 was also sensitive to the tapping. I know for a fact though, the root canal tooth hurts when I chew and when I apply pressure against it with my finger. |
