Yeast infection that won`t go away? (08/20/2007 03:09PM)
A couple days after I had an annual pap smear, I developed a severe yeast infection.

Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection often include:

  • vaginal itch or soreness
  • a thick, white, cheese like discharge
  • a "burning" discomfort around the vaginal opening
  • and pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse.

Vaginal yeast infections are quite common.

Secondly, a review of recurrent vaginal yeast infections in women. Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection often include vaginal itch or soreness, a thick, white, cheese-like discharge, a "burning" discomfort around the vaginal opening, and pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse.

About 5% of women develop recurrent vulvovaginal candidasis (RVVC), which is defined as four or more vaginal yeast infections in a one-year period.

Yeast infections? (01/11/2007 01:23PM)
The last 6 times we had sex, my girlfriend developed signs and symptomps of yeast infection within 4-5 days after with redness itching and a light whitish discharge. Can the cause of her recurrent yeast infections be my vaginal ph?? Recurrent yeas infections need to be documented by culture or examination of the discharge in the lab because many times it isn't a yeast infection that is causing the symptoms.

Yeast infections (01/23/2006 01:40PM)

Very few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of eating yogurt as a treatment for vaginal yeast infections. One small study indicated that eating 1 cup of yogurt — containing active cultures of lactobacillus — a day may reduce the frequency of recurrent yeast infections in some women. If you have recurrent yeast infections, you may consider adding yogurt with live cultures (it should say "live cultures" on the container) to your diet to see if it helps.

Yeast (03/03/2000 03:03PM)
I am searching for info on treating yeast while trying to concieve. What is safe etc. Yeast infections only need to be treated if they are uncomfortable and if it really is a yeast infection. Approximately 50% of women who believe they have a vaginal yeast infection because of symptoms of itching and discharge do not have yeast infections.

A 2-part query about yeast infections (11/26/2007 05:01PM)

Any disruption in the vaginal environment (acidity, normal bacteria, etc) can lend itself to a yeast infection. Prolonged sexual activity could also lead to symptoms suggestive of a yeast infection when in fact there isn't one. The strains of yeast that infect the vagina don't generally infect the skin like the hands.

Can partners share yeast infections? (10/15/2007 11:37AM)

Vaginal yeast infections are frequently caused by use of antibiotics, wearing underwear that does not allow air circulation to the crotch, wearing underpants to bed at night or using douches or other feminine “hygiene” sprays. However, yeast infections are not the only kind of vaginal infections that can cause symptoms of itching and discharge. I would say that if you do not have a yeast infection, it is unlikely that you transmitted the infection through your partner.

Transmission of yeast infections (04/14/2008 01:25PM)
He recently was diagnosed with a yeast infection and we are refraining from sexual contact until it is cleared up. I have no obvious symptoms of a yeast infection, but should I get checked by a physician to be sure I didn`t infect him, or vice versa, that he hasn`t infected me? The type of yeast that causes symptoms generally only infects the moist, warm, environment of the vagina.

Chronic yeast (10/25/2006 09:37AM)
I am 42 yrs old and on every pap smear, it shows yeast. I have tried the usual yeast meds but without much relief. Taking a dose of fluconazole 150 mg every 3 days for three doses, followed by a dose every week, can reduce the number of recurrent infections by reducing the yeast amounts in the vagina.
